What is title 24?

Title 24 is a set of energy-efficiency standards created by the California Energy Commission. It outlines various energy-saving measures that must be met during the design and construction of both residential and nonresidential buildings in California. Some of the key requirements of Title 24 include minimum insulation levels, efficient lighting systems, high-performance windows, and the use of renewable energy sources like solar power. The standards have been gradually revised and updated over the years, with the most recent version, Title 24-2019, taking effect on January 1, 2020. Compliance with Title 24 is mandatory for all new construction projects and major renovations in California, and failure to comply can result in fines and penalties. However, the energy savings achieved through compliance can lead to significant cost savings for both building owners and occupants.
